Information About Lathe Machine Head Stock

Headstock Casting
Headstock casting is the core part of any lathe machine. It is basically the housing of the entire lathe machine. It consists of two halves called as headstock and tailstock. These two halves are joined together at their base by means of bolts. Tailstock is the opposite end of the headstock. It is fixed on the bed plate of the lathe machine and is used to hold the workpiece. The headstock is adjustable in height and width. It is the part where the spindle is located. Spindle is the rotating shaft of the lathe machine, which is used to turn the workpiece. Headstock casting is also known as headstock assembly.

Main Spindle
Main spindle is the central axis of the lathe machine's headstock. It is the part which holds the workpiece. Main spindle is the part of the headstock casting which is responsible for holding the workpiece. Main Spindle is the central axis around which the workpiece rotates. Main spindle is also known as spindle.

Workholding Arrangement
Workholding arrangement is the mechanism which is used to hold the material to be machined. There are three types of workholding arrangements namely, single point, double point and multi point. Single point workholding arrangement is the simplest type of workholding arrangement. It is used to hold the materials to be machined only at one point. Double point workholding arrangement is used to hold the objects at two points simultaneously. Multi point workholding arrangement is also known as universal workholding arrangement. It can be used to hold the objects in many places at once.

Live Centre
Live centre is the center of rotation of the workpiece. It is the part of the workholding arrangement which is responsible for holding and turning the workpiece. Live centre is also known as the center of rotation.

Cone Pulley
Cone pulley is the part of the drive system which is used to transfer the torque from the driving belt to the spindle. It is also known as cone pulley.

Drive System
Drive system is the part of the lathe machine which is responsible for transferring the torque from the driving belts to the spindle. Drive system is also known as V-belt driven lathe machine.

Electric Motor
Electric motor is the part of the driving system which is used to rotate the spindle. It converts electrical energy into mechanical energy.
